Ho-Ho-Holidays

Whew. This year just flew by. The last day of school for 2016 is over and done. Of course, I nearly forgot to post the last doodle of the year. We had a busy night buying books for Jolabokaflod, which is apparently Finnish for “Christmas Book Flood." If you've never heard of the tradition, you should check it out. They give books on Christmas Eve and spend the night drinking hot cocoa and reading. The boy picked out a book for me and for Papa. I can't wait to see what I'll be reading tomorrow night!


But before we leave you for the holiday, here's one last Christmas joke.

The boy's favorite carol right now is Jingle Bells. I don't know if it's the catchy tune or just that it's the only one he knows all of the words to. When I saw this joke, I knew he would appreciate it.

Christmas countdown!

How did it get so close so fast? I'm pretty sure I'm not ready for it to be Christmas yet. We had a crazy bust weekend celebrating the holiday early with my side of the family. In my mad dash to get everything ready for our overnight trip, I forgot to post Friday's doodle.

The boy didn't go to school yesterday because he had minor surgery on his foot. He got to spend a day on the couch playing video games after post-surgery milkshakes. No doodle for yesterday though.

Today, we hopefully get back on track with the first of our Christmas jokes.

Run, run, as fast as you can

In case I haven't already mentioned it, we've done some serious Christmas cookie baking here in the past week. Chocolate chip, mint m&m, mint Christmas trees, raspberry flowers, mini sweet potato pies. I'm proud to say I've also managed to avoid burning myself this year, which may be a first. One holiday staple that never seems to make it into my baking rotation is the gingerbread man. Maybe closer to Christmas I'll give it a try.

Must've taken a wrong turn

Weather forecasts are calling for a rapid drop in temps here. I've heard reports of it dropping to the teens and single digits if you factor in the wind chill. For my New York family, that's nothing, but for those of us who aren't used to it, that's frigid.

Seeing how the cold weather seems ready to stick around, I doodled another cold weather friend today.

A little backwards

So, decided to take a break from snowmen because I realized I've been drawing a lot of them lately. I wanted to keep in the holiday spirit, though, so we still have a festive doodle.

Things have been a bit frantic here the past few days. Some crazy lady signed me up to donate six dozen cookies to the PTA cookie exchange for the teachers. Okay, the crazy lady was me. At least my house smells delicious. I'm also happy to report that those six dozen have been made and then some.

I'm blaming today's late post on the baking.

I should have come up with a joke about cookies. What a missed opportunity. Hope everyone had a lovely Monday!

It was pretty chilly here this morning. I think it dipped into the teens if you take the wind chill into account. Still no snow though. It's a beautiful, clear, wear-two-pants-for-your-outdoor-recess-monitoring-shift kind of day. I continued our snowy joke theme anyway.

Oh, balls!

So, after another day home from school, we were vomit free and gave it another go. He did report a tummy ache twice today, but no sickness. Fingers crossed we're actually done with the stomach bug this time.

All in the family

So, the boy made it through the entire day of school yesterday only to throw up in the hall on his way out the door. That means no school again today. Luckily (for me, not his Papa), the boy's bug has been passed to his Papa, so Papa stayed home sick today too.

Even though I'm not sending him to school, I packed a lunch and drew a doodle before remembering he wasn't going to school. So, even though it's technically a sick day, the doodle will be posted.

The weather forecast is a lie

First thing's first. I didn't forget yesterday's post. The boy was sick, so no school, so no doodle. Luckily he's feeling better, so we're back on schedule, kind of.

I drew today's doodle thinking it would be perfect since the forecast called for snow. It's the first time it's made the weather this year. Of course, we've only had rain. 

Maybe soon we'll actually see some of the white stuff. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Shocking!!

This little yellow face is so easy to love.

Pikachu loses much of his muchness when he's in black and white, so I decided to color him in. I didn't expect the markers to run so much on the paper towel. He looks like he has windburn. It's appropriate for this blustery day. I'm pretty sure the boy will still love it.

Christmas countdown!

About a month or so ago, we bought the boy an advent calendar. It's not filled with cheap chocolates. It's filled with Lego figures. He's stoked. He's been counting down the days until December 1st so he can begin opening doors. You would think this would lead me to make today's doodle about Christmas. Or Legos. You'd be wrong on both counts.

Yesterday's Pokemon doodle was so popular, that I continued the trend. The boy's lunch table also tries to come up with their own jokes now. We went on a zombie joke tangent today. They were terrible and wonderful all at the same time.

I promise that we will get to Christmas and Winter jokes soon. 

Gotta Catch 'Em All

The boy, much like every other person under the age of 12, is slightly obsessed with Pokemon. His interest in Pokemon Go has waned some, but he still loves the characters and the show. I stumbled across a page of Pokemon jokes and knew I had to send some in his lunch.

Oh, Holidays

Nothing knocks me off schedule like a long holiday weekend. It kicks my daily writing habit quicker than I would like. So, of course, I missed posting yesterday. It was a really cute one too.

See? And thanks to everyone that sent me this joke. It was cute watching the kids try to figure it out at lunch yesterday.

Today's joke will most likely be easier for them to understand. It doesn't have so many big words. Kids these days have no idea what a thesaurus is. It's just another obscure dinosaur to them!

Hello Turkey Eve!

Off to a rocky start

I missed yesterday's post! I had a bit of a crazy day since I got called in to start a new job. It threw my entire schedule out of whack. Never fear, I will give you a double dose of doodles today to make up for it!

Yesterday was all olfactory. My guess it that boy smells pie. I'm baking one tomorrow, and I can't wait for the way my kitchen is going to smell.

Today's doodle brings us back to the turkey.

Poor pumpkin

Our poor jack-o-lantern barely made it to Halloween this year. We carved the pumpkin on the 21st, right after we came home from the field trip to the pumpkin patch. It gave us a great 10 days. And then I had to push it into my flower bed, where it landed with a wet plop because it was already filled with mold and half-rotted.

Oh November, forced to witness the yearly slaughter of thousands of good pumpkins. At least some of us also use them for pie. Though most folks simply use the canned stuff which might not even be pumpkin at all. http://www.epicurious.com/ingredients/what-is-in-canned-pumpkin-article

Something to sink your teeth into

I made the mistake of allowing the boy to use my laptop while he ate breakfast. Oh, the muffin crumbs! Oh, the sticky mousepad! This mama has learned her lesson. No more computers at mealtimes, even if the boy is using it for homework.

Today's doodle has nothing to do with computers and only slightly relates to muffins, but the current state of my laptop was so distracting, it couldn't go unlamented.

Now who could eat such a cute slice of pie, I ask you. For all of you thinking how delicious that little pie looks, shame on you! Monsters! Just kidding. That pie would be destroyed in two seconds at my house.

Pilgrims

It's another brisk fall morning. Most of the trees are bare, and the squirrels and birds have gone into hiding. Every day it feels a little more like Winter. But before we get to snow and reindeer, we've got some thanks to give.

Frosty Fall morning

It's happening, folks. Winter is coming. On our walk to school this morning, there was still frost on the ground.

I know there are a lot of Winter haters out there, but even you have to admit, frost and snow are beautiful. 

Today's doodle has nothing to do with Winter since I saw this lovely frost after I'd already packed the boy's lunch. It is still a seasonal joke though.

As Thanksgiving is next Thursday, be prepared for an influx of foul jokes.

I feel like this could be the title for just about any of my posts. Corny jokes are the best for young jokesters. They get the humor. I'm a sucker for them too. That's why the title is about more than just the quality of my jokes.

It's that time again

I took a handful of pictures on our walk to school this morning. Sunlight shining through autumn leaves is so beautiful. I really do love this time of year.

And that brings me to today's joke. I'm fairly certain I used this one last year. I think about it every Fall. It's one of my favorites.

We Need All the Smiles Today

We've had a bumpy past couple of days. The boy came home early from school on Thursday. He's been fighting off a nasty cold ever since. On the plus side, I got to see him read his joke and his reaction was awesome.

In addition to the sickness, the boy has had the past two days off from school for a teacher in-service day and election day. So, it feels like a tiny bit of forever since I've drawn a doodle.

I hope this helps give those who need it a laugh today.

Right foot, blue

The boy has developed a fascination for storms. He asks to watch videos of floods and tidal waves. He loves reading books about tornadoes and hurricanes. Due to this newfound love, we recently purchased an early reader about storms so he could read about them on his own. I read through it with him recently and discovered they have a few weather jokes in there. Of course, I decided to use them for mamadoodles.

I can math

It's no secret that math isn't my strong suit. However, the boy has turned me into a human calculator. One of his favorite games is to quiz me with math problems.

"Mama, what's twenty plus twenty?"

"What's one thousand plus two hundred?"

"What seven times seven?"

My life is a giant math review.

Air Mail

Whew. Still trying to recover from all of yesterday's excitement. Very thankful that the boy wanted to buy lunch today since we were a bit rushed this morning. He did bring an afternoon snack from home, so I tucked today's doodle in with his snack.

This joke is actually from a popsicle stick. The boy got the popsicle from Boo at the Zoo (even though it was freezing.) I thought it would make a fun doodle.

Trick or Treat!

I hope everyone is having a Happy Halloween! We've had a busy day between the class party and trick or treating. I think the boy is going to sleep like a rock. I'm sneaking one more monster in before Halloween is over.

Hello, Friday! We're gearing up for a pre-Halloween weekend. Sadly, that means we're nearing the end of the Halloween jokes. I felt like I had to sneak this little guy in before Halloween though.

Not just for breakfast

I'm happy they've brought back the Halloween-themed cereals of my childhood. Frankenberry, Count Chocula, BooBerry...though I think there was also a werewolf one that I haven't seen make a comeback. Without the resurrection of these classics, I think today's doodle would miss the mark.

I realized this morning that it looks like someone might have slipped something into the ghost's booberries, because he looks a little intoxicated. Maybe the cereal is just seriously delicious. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Cutest little zombie

The boy has loved zombies for as long as I can remember. We even had a plants vs. zombies party for his birthday last year. When I came across this joke (and the adorable zombie drawing used for reference), I knew I had to make it a napkin doodle.

Spooky!

It's coming, folks. Halloween is just a week away. We've already taken our costumes out for a spin. We attended our fifth Boo at the Zoo. It's definitely got us in the Halloween spirit. I'm sure you can guess what that means. Dust off the spooky jokes!

Going Places

Today was field trip day! The boy rode a school bus for the first time, and we hung out all day at a farm where he got to milk a cow, pet bunnies and piglets, watch pig races, and a million other fun things. We also got to pick pumpkins.  It also means, it's the last of the terrible autumn puns for you!

I personally love this one. And for the first time, I got to see the boy pull it out of his lunch to read it. It was kind of amazing. Hope you all have a great weekend!

I feel like today's joke is the king of all dad jokes. It's terrible folks; I'm not going to lie. However, it's simple enough that the boy enjoyed it.

The boy has his first field trip this Friday, and it's to the pumpkin patch, so I'm hoping to keep a field trip/autumn doodle theme this week.

This probably isn't such a late post for you young whipper snappers, but for this old lady, it's almost bedtime. Today just got away from me, and I just realized I hadn't posted a doodle. It would be a shame too since I really like both the joke and doodle for today.

The title of this blog post may become my new favorite expletive. It's alliterative and kid friendly. Win-win, right?

Today was parent visitation day at the boy's school. Cutest. Thing. Ever. It made me wish I could observe the class every day. We got to leave them special messages in their pencil boxes for later. I was rewarded with my own doodle and note from the boy.

He, of course, has his own doodle tucked into his lunch.
