And now I'm hungry

It's been raining here for the past three days. Luckily, there's no flooding in my area. Even luckier, while the rain brought colder temperatures, it's not actually cold enough for any of this rain to turn to snow. I read somewhere that if it had been snow, we would have gotten nearly 60 inches. While I love snow, that would be ridiculous.

So, let's all take a minute to express our thanks that it's warm enough to avoid another snowpocalypse in the DC/Metro area.

Wondering what the title of this blog post has to do with a blizzard? Today's doodle might help you understand my brain's convoluted train of thought.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Alternate transportation

I may have mentioned before that the boy and I walk to school every day. Well, except today because the weather is determined to soak me to the bone. I sucked it up and drove this morning. Shoes were still sopping wet when I got home. I took it as a sign to stay home and get things done around the house today.

The boy complains about walking quite a bit. A half mile is a long walk for little legs. I bribe him with snacks and Gatorade for the walk home. I'm hoping he'll see today's doodle and appreciate his own legs a little more.

Just imagine how long it would take that fly's tiny legs to get him half a mile! Happy soggy Thursday everyone!

Sticky situation

I realized this morning that I'm pretty certain the boy could count on one hand how many times he has combed his hair. We keep it kept short, so it's generally a non-issue. I'm sure he could if I asked him, but it's definitely not a habit. So, hopefully, today's humor will still be appreciated.

Happy Wednesday!

In my heart, you'll always be a planet

It's old news that Pluto lost its planet status. Demoted to dwarf planet. Poor thing. There will always be nine planets in my solar system. I've got your back, Pluto.

Today's doodle is a cosmically bad pun. The best kind.

Everything about this joke is so old, the boy might not get it. Sent it in his lunch today anyway.

A purrrrfect start to the week

We had a super busy weekend. Saturday was the National Book Festival in DC. It's an all day adventure in literacy, and the boy really enjoys going. If you're local, keep it in mind for next year. In addition to some fun read aloud story sessions, the boy got to play games, collect loot from a variety of vendors, and scored seven free books from the lovely people at Scholastic. He was stoked.

Today's doodle has absolutely nothing to do with any of this. But it is cute and I think the boy will enjoy the humor.

Also, I snuck some color in again! Happy Monday!

Forgetful Friday

So, it was actually a forgetful Thursday, but there's just not as much satisfactory alliteration for that and my failure. I missed a post. Again.

The ever-present bright side to my forgetfulness is that you get two doodles today! Huzzah!

I brought the little oyster from Alice in Wonderland into the tech era by giving her a phone. For some reason, anytime an oyster needs to be humanized, these are the ones that come to mind. At least there was no walrus to devour this one.

(The boy totally misread this joke and still loved it. He thought it said 'others' instead of oysters.)

Today's doodle plays on his love to read drawn out words. I think he's going to love all of the i's.

Hope you all have a great weekend. See you back here (if I manage to remember to post) on Monday!

A Big Ooooopsss

So, I made a doodle today that I'm sure the boy will love. There's just one problem. It's still sitting on the kitchen table! I never put it in his lunchbox :( I guess he'll have a super special napkin with his afternoon snack or dinner.

Hope your Wednesday is off to a better start than mine!

Hippity Hoppity

The boy will tell you that his favorite animals are elephants and sharks, but his favorite movie is about neither of those. It's a movie called Hop (thanks, Nana for buying it for him). It's an Easter movie I'd never heard of until he got it as a gift. He instantly loved it. e've watched it so many times, we may have to buy another copy. The disc is very worn with love.

Today's doodle reminds me of the main character in the movie, E.B. He's a little bunny that loves music.

Yes, I realize the headphones are no where near his ears, and somehow squeezing the sides of his face. But you still get the point, and that's all that matters.

Happy Tuesday, folks!

Looking a little green

I'm sure you've noticed that mamadoodles are always in black and white. It saves me time, but also saves me from worrying whether the color will spread to the boy's face if he actually uses the napkin.

The boy saw me drawing his doodle this morning and made a request. He wanted the centipede to be green. Then, he decided the parrot should also be green. Today's doodle is colored per the boy's instruction.

Our week is off to a rainy start, but my plants are rejoicing. Hope you're enjoying your Monday!

Ah-choo, choo, choo!

Well, hello Friday. It's lovely to see you again so soon. It feels like this week has flown by. I don't know if it's because the boy has begun to have homework assignments, so our evenings are more full, or if it's just that there was no school on Monday. Regardless, I can't believe it's Friday already.

I figured I would send everyone off with another dreadful pun. This one includes a rather frightening doodle of an anthropomorphized train. Seriously, Thomas and his friends are a little creepy, am I right? I'm so glad the boy never went through the train obsessed phase that fills most houses with Thomas paraphernalia.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Do you smell that?

Over the past year, I've noticed a trend in the jokes the boy seems to like most. They're the ones with the most terrible puns. I think it's easier for young jokesters to understand the obvious ones.

Today's pun is pretty dreadful. Fair warning now to turn away, close your browser tab before it's too late.

Still here? Let me reward you with this joke!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Let's go for a ride!

When we're reading stories together, the boy always wants to read the parts where the words are drawn out, like thiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssss. He thinks the emphasis is hilarious. Mo Willems books are a special favorite because of this and his use of large bold fonts when his characters are excited or yelling.

I'm pretty sure, he's going to like today's doodle.

Happy Wednesday!

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting!

Okay, maybe not everyone. Maybe just one little pig.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We enjoyed our extra three day weekend. We took the boy to his first real concert on Sunday night. It was Weird Al. It was fantastic. He had a great time. We spent our day off from school at Great Falls Park in Virginia. If you live close enough to go, you should. It's beautiful. Trying to get back into the swing of things, yet again, after missing a day of school.

Have a great Tuesday everyone! I hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

My first missed post

When you post something daily, you'd think it would become a habit, right? Apparently I'm immune to habit-forming behavior. I skipped yesterday's post. Be warned, it is most likely the first of many missed posts, if last school year is any indication.

But worry not. That means you actually get two doodles today! Consider it a Happy Friday bonus. Here is yesterday's belated joke:

And today's.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! The boy is off from school again this Monday for some reason or another, so we'll be back Tuesday. (As long as I don't forget!)

Letters

The boy loves to receive things in the mail. If you have a little one, drop me a line with your address because the boy would love to send and receive more mail. Be warned though, he's not as good about the sending. He truly does love getting letters though.

Given his love of mail, I thought he might appreciate today's joke. (He loved the jellybutton by the way. Still cracked up when he saw the napkin again after school!)

Trying to rebound after a long weekend

It's crazy how much a three day weekend can throw off your schedule. We got a late start this morning, but managed to get out the door on time. It was a lovely walk to school this morning. The weather is crazy beautiful out there today, folks. I am loving these cool morning temperatures.

Since it's no longer the first week of school, I have abandoned any pretense of theme for the doodles. Thus begins jokes that I just think are cute. Continue reading this blog at your own risk. I won't accept any accountability for the lameness of puns.

We survived the first week

It's Friday, folks. The first week of Kindergarten is officially under our belts. We have a back to school picnic tonight and the boy is excited to introduce us to all of his new friends.

When I ask the boy what his favorite part of the day was, he usually answers with "snack" or "recess." When asked what his favorite subject is, the answer is always "recess." Due to his love of recess, I felt this joke was an appropriate ending to this first week of school.

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and a happy and safe holiday weekend!

Busy bees

Our new house is about half a mile from the boy's new school, so we've been walking to school every day. He was looking forward to it until it actually came time to walk. On the day of open house, he told me he actually wanted to ride the bus to school. Unbeknownst to him, in our district, if you live a mile or less from the school, riding the bus is not an option. They only run buses for students that live 1.1 miles or further. I think it crushed him a little to know that he had to walk.

I wasn't ready to load him onto a bus and watch him pull away form me. I love the time we get to spend together on the walk. He tells me all about his school day on the way home. It's lovely.

Anyway, today's doodle involves the bus transportation that my poor boy was denied.

Wow. Sorry it's so dark. It's a bit of a gloomy day here, so I guess the lighting in the kitchen this morning was a bit dim. Happy Thursday everybody!
