Quack, quack, BANG!

It wouldn't be an American fourth of July without fireworks and flags. We covered flags yesterday, so it's time for a fireworks joke.

I didn't mean to make the duck look so devious, but, then again, he is playing with a firecracker bigger than he is.

Happy Thursday, folks.

Oh, say, can you see?

I never noticed, until this morning, how much the first line of the national anthem sounds like the beginning of a Dr. Seuss book.

Oh, say, can you see
that flag's waving to me.
What's that
you say again?
Oh, I see,
it's just the wind.

See, can totally turn that line into Seussian rhyme.

Happy Wednesday!

Hope her sandals give her good back support

Poor Statue of Liberty. She's been standing in New York for over a hundred years. And her arm! Holding that torch in the air. Her triceps must be screaming. She's on of the most patriotic symbols we have though, so it seemed fitting to include her in the doodle for the fourth of July.

Somebody get that poor lady a chair!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Ready for fireworks

The past few years have been pretty unsuccessful for us when it comes to the boy enjoying the fireworks on July 4th. The explosions are so loud that they scare him. We're going to give it another go this year, but I'm uncertain if he'll actually like the display, or just tolerate it for a few minutes before asking to go home.

To help him gear up for the big event, I thought I'd fill his lunch with Independence Day themed jokes. Admittedly, some are very loosely related, but I still hope they help him get excited about celebrating.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Working up a thirst

The sun has finally made a reappearance this morning after a few days of thunderstorms, dampness, and humidity. The forecast calls for a lovely day today, and warm days with low humidity all weekend. We never get warmth without humidity, so I'm looking forward to a weekend where we can actually enjoy being outside.

Heating our planet must be a lot of hard work. I bet the sun needs a nice refreshing glass of something to help it relax once in a while. I bet that glass has a bendy straw in it because the sun is too cool for a lame straight straw.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Not much Sun-day

We woke up to a very rainy morning in doodle land. I awoke to the sounds of thunder, more specifically. While I am not thrilled at the prospect of today's wetness, hopefully it will bring some cooler temperatures with it.

Even with the overcast sky, today's doodle will bring the boy a little sunshine.

Because when the sun gives you a thumbs up, it's impossible to have a bad day.

Another puddle

We had crazy thunderstorms here yesterday evening. They were the shake-your-house-rattle-your-windows-deafening-cracks-of-thunder kind of storms. Things are pretty soggy here this morning. I thought it would be a great day for another doodle with a puddle. (Yesterday saw a rock in a puddle of water in case you missed it.)

The boy keeps asking me when it's going to snow again. I have a feeling that I may have to explain, again, that winter and snow are a few months away.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Make a splash!

It was a crisp 90 degrees here yesterday afternoon. Even though it's overcast, with a good chance of rain, it's supposed to be that hot again today. With the added bonus of humidity that will suck all of the breath out of your lungs and leave you gasping. Ah, east coast summers, I never miss you.

With this rapid rise in temperature, all anyone can think about is getting in the pool to cool off.

The boy is supposed to have water play at school today. Fingers crossed that the rain holds off long enough for them to have a little fun.

Hello, Summer!

Happy first day of Summer!! While the boy still has a few weeks of school before summer vacation starts, I thought we would still mark the official turn of the season with our doodles this week.

Happy Monday. Hope your summer is off to a great start!

Bonus Round!

The boy doesn't have school today. Normally, that would mean there wouldn't be a doodle today. However, he requested a joke with his lunch anyway. Alas, it is not a joke about watermelon. I'll give you a moment to recover from your disappointment.

Maybe today's doodle will help you feel better.

Hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Going up?

Welcome to the final day of watermelon jokes! The boy is out of school tomorrow for a teacher inservice. He has requested a joke in his lunch even though he won't be going to school. I'm going to try to think of something special since he'll be eating at home. It might have something to do with jokes I can't send to school, but he thinks are hilarious. Perhaps something about butts...

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Here's today's doodle!

Happy day-before-Friday!

Melon-opoly

The streak of melon jokes continues! I drew inspiration for this one from everyone's favorite millionaire, Mr. Moneybags from Monopoly. He's the richest guy I know ;)

I think he's a dapper little melon. Wishing you all a wonderful Wednesday!

So fancy!

I realized this morning that it is much more difficult to find kid friendly jokes about watermelon than I expected. I did find a few that I think the boy will like.

Today's is an oldie but I think it will be good for a chuckle.

Now, to find out if the boy knows what 'elope' means.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Melon Mania!

I've probably mentioned it before, but the boy's favorite food is watermelon. In the wake of the cantaloupe joke, today's doodle pays tribute to his favoritest of the melons.

If I can find enough good ones, I will devote the week to watermelon jokes. You have been given fair warning. Hope your week starts off with a magnificent Monday!

It's electric!

Boogie woogie woogie. For those of you not old enough to remember the electric slide, thanks for making me feel old. For those that are: you're welcome for the ear worm this morning. Today's doodle has nothing to do with the song, but the word electric always makes me start to sing it in my head.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Water Melons

Watermelon has been the boy's favorite food since before he could eve chew. Seriously. We had these net like things that we would put the melon in so he could gum it and drink the juice without choking on bits of melon. While many things have changed about him as he's grown older (he has a different favorite color every week), his love of watermelon has remained constant.

He also loves cantaloupe, though he's not fond of honeydew. I think, given his love of these melons, he's going to enjoy today's doodle.

May a glorious Thursday be upon you!

Un baa-lievable

Sometimes I expect a doodle to be much more difficult than it proves to be. Today's joke is a perfect example of that. I almost passed on this joke because I thought there was no way I was going to be able to draw it.

It turns out, that it's a lot easier to simplify this than I planned. The original picture in my head was ridiculously complicated compared to this guy. I found this simple version via a google search, and I couldn't be happier with him!

Wonderful Wednesday wishes to you all!!

Cuddlebug

When I read today's joke, I knew instantly that it would be a doodle. It involves one of my favorite sea creatures.

I've always loved cuttlefish. We have a plush one we got from an aquarium once upon a time. It's the cutest little critter. Except for maybe the dumbo octopus. That little guy is adorable too.

Hooray for cuddles! Hope you all have a lovely Tuesday!

The Spongebob jokes continue!

After drawing today's doodle, I realized I should have gone with a different theme for this week. We spent all weekend at Awesome Con in DC, and I feel like I missed an opportunity to do superhero jokes. Oh well. Instead, we've got more jokes from the Spongebob book.

Happy Monday. Hope you had a great weekend!

Needs more tentacle!

One more silly sea joke to sail you into the weekend.

In hindsight, I feel like I should have made the tentacles longer, or given the little oinker more of them. His head just seems so big!

Hope everyone has a great Friday and a wonderful weekend. See you back here on Monday!

Hybrid Humor

The boy seems to enjoy when jokes mix two things together to create something new, like this strange little fellow.

I debated drawing an elephant with an eel for a trunk, but thought it would be much more difficult for him to swim that way. Also, eel faces are ugly.

Happy Thursday!

Purr-fect

Our silly sea-faring joke adventure continues.

Happy Wednesday!
