M-O-O-N That Spells Moon

For anyone who's never read The Stand, the title of this post makes no sense. And you should read it. I know it's daunting, what with being about 123485675892 pages long, but it's a great story. Before you get worried, today's joke has nothing to do with that novel, or any novel really. Just the moon.

Some of the first graders guessed the answer to this one. They were so proud of themselves. It was adorable.

Have a great weekend!

Splits

I've never understood the appeal of banana splits. There's entirely too much going on for me to enjoy it. There's chocolate sauce and nuts and three flavors of ice cream and whipped cream and sprinkles and more. It's like someone couldn't make up their mind, so they just added everything. And when it starts to melt...gross. It's brown soupiness that looks like something you would find in a diaper. Also, I don't like bananas.

The boy thinks banana splits are awesome though. I think it's because he's delivered a veritable mound of sugary mess. He always gives the cherries to his Papa though. He doesn't like that part.

At this point, I've basically given away today's punchline, but here's the doodle anyway.

It's Getting Hot in Here

I know absolutely nothing about NCAA basketball and March Madness. That being said, at least my jokes make it look like I'm following sports stuff.

Those fans know how to keep things cool. Happy Wednesday everybody!

The gold is a lie

I realize that St. Patrick's Day has come and gone, but when I came across this joke, I knew the boy would love it. They made leprechaun traps in school this year (who knew that was a thing, right?) Ever since a leprechaun left him some candy in his trap, the boy has been very interested in them.

I was a little nervous the kids wouldn't get the "little short" turn of phrase, but the joke went over surprisingly well. I guess it's never too late for a little leprechaun humor.

Ahhh Spring

So, things are finally starting to warm up a bit. I managed, on our first truly warm day this year, to also get my first sunburn. I'm not used to applying sunscreen anymore.

A friend of mine posted this joke on his FaceBook feed yesterday, and I knew immediately that I would be using it today.

I'm not the only one relieved to see this warmer weather! Hope you all had a great weekend and that your week is off to a great start.

Missed One!

We had a busy day yesterday and I realized this morning that I never posted yesterday's doodle!

I took the boy to Smashburger for dinner on Thursday. They have the word SMASH on the wall in giant letters. So, I asked him what the Hulk's favorite restaurant is. The answer was Smashburger. The boy responded with a joke of his own which I turned into yesterday's doodle.

Not too bad, right? I'm training him well in the art of the pun.

Hocus Pocus

Today's doodle was a bit of a mouthful for the kindergarteners. The first graders fared better because they got an oral version since the napkin is in the boy's lunch. I think today's joke really needs to be heard out loud.

Once I read it out loud to the kindergarteners the smiles appeared. I think that big word is intimidating.

Palms up

It was almost warm enough to wear t-shirts yesterday. This morning brought 35 mph winds and temps that might creep into the lower 40s if we're lucky, though it will feel colder with the wind chill.

We've been discussing a trip to the beach over Spring Break this year. We haven't been to the beach in a few years. Today is hardening my resolve to see some sand and sun this spring.

Loafing about

I was unaware, until today, that people have made shoes out of bread and worn them. While browsing for inspiration for today's doodle, I was shocked to discover multiple pictures of people wearing actual loaves of bread on their feet. Apparently, some people love puns even more than I do.

All of those crumbs between your toes would have to be uncomfortable, right?

Snooze

Are you all aware of this Shopkins craze that's sweeping through girls ages 5 through 7 or so? It's common objects like spatulas and shoes with faces. Little girls are in love with them. Even the boy has asked for some. Today's doodle doesn't have to do with Shopkins exactly, but it does remind me of them.

This sleepy purse looks like it fits right in with the strange plastic figures kids collect. I'm interested to see if any of the classmates make a Shopkins connection. Hope your week is off to a great start!

All the moos

If you came here expecting a St. Patrick's Day joke, you're about to be disappointed. While I remembered to wear green today, I wasn't thinking about it at all when I drew today's doodle. So, sorry folks. You'll have to get leprechaun jokes elsewhere.

The first graders cracked up when I told them this one today. Every day they ask "what's today's joke?" and I love it.

Seal of approval

Between a sinus-y pestilence and daylight savings time, mornings are coming entirely too early these days. My bed has never looked more welcoming.

I had hoped we might get one more delay due to snow, but it was not meant to be. Even more of a blow to my coveted sleep: Thursday is Chinese class, which means we go to school an hour earlier. While the boy didn't manage to wake up until we had less than ten minutes until we had to leave, I managed to drag myself out of bed and get lunch packed and breakfast made.

I'm a little worried about whether he'll get today's joke.

Meanwhile, I'm going to ponder how lovely it would be if my chores could get themselves done while I napped.

Accessories that are out of this world

We got a late-winter snowstorm this week and an unexpected snow day yesterday! It was the boy's first official snow day. We made snowmen, snow angels, had a snow ball fight, and went sledding. I think all obligatory snow day activities were accounted for. There was even hot cocoa!

We've got a two hour delay today, but are still going, so the doodles are back in business.

Slam Dunk

I'd love to say today's doodle is inspired by March Madness to make it look like my family knows anything about sportsball. Really, this joke is inspired by donuts. It's something my family appreciates much more than basketball.

The player has an infinity jersey because I wanted to put the boy's favorite number on it. I asked him what his favorite number was this morning and his top pick was googleplex. That won't fit on a jersey, so we went with the runner up which was infinity.

Seussical

The boy's class has been reading Dr. Seuss stories for the past two weeks. This morning, I realized I missed a great opportunity to send in Dr. Seuss jokes. At least I managed to get one in before their Seuss unit is over.

Our Friday is off to a wet and wild weather-filled start so far. This morning we've had rain, sleet, wintry mix, snow, and hail. Waiting to see what happens next! Have a great weekend!

Chipper

The boy has been asking us to buy him his own computer. He wants his own desk, his own workspace. We're not entirely opposed to the idea, though it will most likely be an inexpensive little desktop.

Given how much we've been talking about computers lately, I thought he might appreciate today's joke.

Weeping wolfie

Like Yoshi, this little doodle sure could use a hug. Poor wolfie doesn't know where he is.

Hope you have a better Wednesday than this wolf pup!

Coincidence

While scrolling through jokes to determine today's doodle, I came across one that's so lame I think the boy will love it. I didn't realize how appropriate it was for today until I got home from dropping the boy off at school.

It's a wet and rainy day here, so this umbrella joke is perfect. Stay dry out there!

Mmmmmmelon

If you asked the boy what his favorite food is, I am willing to bet he would say watermelon. Even before ice cream. Even before candy. Watermelon. So, when I came across this joke this morning, I knew it had to be a doodle.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Brrrr

Checking the thermometer this winter is going to give me whiplash. On Wednesday, we were outside in short sleeves. We woke up this morning to a dusting of snow. It's cold. Also, I'm afraid my tulips and daffodils are going to die. The warmth fooled them into thinking Winter was over.

The boy told me he didn't want a joke or a fun fact in his lunch today. I still wanted to send a doodle and thought this was fitting given our current weather situation.

Have a good weekend!

Not in any rush

While the buzz around Pokemon Go has died, the boy still enjoys playing from time to time. He also likes the show. He got a sneak peak of today's doodle while I was drawing this morning. This little bugger is harder to draw than I expected.

When the boy saw it, I hadn't written the joke down yet. I'm betting he'll guess the punch line pretty quickly though!

Send Yoshi hugs

The world of video game puns is an untapped resource, so you're going to see me delving into it more and more. It's two of the boy's most favorite favorites combined, so it's perfect for doodles.

Yoshi looks so sad. Please send hugs.
