Time for Sportsball

Thursday was take your child to work day, so the boy didn't pack a lunch. Looks like I forgot to post Friday's though, which is a shame because I was pretty proud of it.

We reached the sports chapter in the boy's joke book. The joke I chose for today is perfect. The boy discovered NBA 2K18 yesterday. The older kids in the neighborhood come over to our house and play it sometimes, and he's never been interested. He assumed it wouldn't be fun. His mind was blown yesterday when he finally played with them and LOVED it. It's his new favorite game.

Explained that traveling is a penalty this morning at breakfast so he wouldn't be completely lost with this joke. Not sure if you can even travel in the game at all. Wonder if this love of virtual basketball will transfer over to playing in real life.

Feeble Fortune

Since allergies have hit us pretty hard, I felt like the joke chapter on doctors was right up our alley for this week. I feel like I can sympathize with the treasure in today's joke.

Our house is still filled with sniffles and the occasional cough or sneeze, but we seem to be over the worst of it. Hope this belated Spring is being more kind to the rest of you!

Skipped a Few

The boy was out sick on Thursday and stayed home again yesterday. So today you get Friday's doodle and today's. Making up for missed posts, as always.

The kids that heard Friday's joke out loud didn't get it. Without seeing the alternate spelling, the punchline required explanation. I have a feeling today's joke will be the same.

It kind of looks like the house is sneezing, but that might just be my seasonal allergies talking.

Strange Bedfellows

I almost forgot to post again. Almost, but not quite.

Today's joke continues the alphabet trend. It might be the last one in the letter series. We'll see what the book has to offer for tomorrow.

This was another hit or miss. Some kids have never heard the phrase 'catching z's' so they have no clue that it means falling asleep. They didn't get this joke at all. I'm happy to report that the boy got it, so not a complete failure. I'll try to pick a joke that's a bit more obvious for tomorrow.

To the Letter

It should come as no surprise that I forgot to post yesterday's doodle. You know by now that I fail at remembering to post. That makes this another two for Tuesday.

This is one of the first jokes I haven't had to explain to anyone. They all got it :)

Today's doodle keeps up with the alphabet trend. (You can probably tell what section of the joke book I'm currently thumbing through.)

I'd love to join that T on his little island. We've got temps in the 30's here again today. In mid-April. Winter really doesn't want to call it quits.

Itchy

Today's joke was very hit or miss. The kids that got it made the connection right away. Those that didn't understand it on the first pass, still didn't really get it after an explanation. The visual helped a lot, so those who just heard the joke with no picture struggled the most.

The boy got it and was excited that he made the connection.

Golden

I realized this morning that I forgot to post yesterday. This daily post thing doesn't seem to work well for me. I'm wondering whether I should just collect them all and do one post on Friday with the whole week's doodles in it. Thoughts on this? Would you like to continue to receive them (almost) daily or would a weekly post satisfy your need for bad puns? Please let me know in the comments.

In the meantime, here's the doodle from yesterday.

The boy read all about Midas earlier this year in school, so the only explanation needed for this one was that goldenrod is a type of flower.

On the way home from dropping the boy off at school yesterday morning, a student told me a joke that I loved so much, I knew it would be today's doodle.

I love that they tell me jokes now. And I especially love it when they tell me one I haven't heard before, like this little gem.

A Little Catching Up

It looks like I've got some making up to do. Haven't posted in a few days. Never fear, the doodles have still been coming. I'm still pulling jokes out of the boy's new joke book.

Friday's joke needed a little explanation beforehand. The boy had never heard of a ho-down, so I had to teach him what it was.

Apparently, some kids these days don't know who Mother Goose is. This joke was very hit or miss yesterday.

That leaves us with today's doodle. It warranted another explanation as the boy didn't know the name for any type of drum. He knows what a drum kit is, and that he wants one, but his drum knowledge stops there. I also made sure he knows that a snare is a type of trap. We'll see if he gets the joke come lunch time.

Soggy Knight

Our weather continues to be all over the place with snow appearing in the forecast again for Saturday. I thought April would bring showers of the rain variety, but I guess Winter isn't ready to release its clutches just yet. Normally, weather would be warm enough for today's doodles to be seasonally relevant.

Some day my Spring will come. Guess I'll go unpack our snow gear.

Safety First!

The boy has requested something new for his jokes. He wants the word that makes the joke funny underlined. I'll be highlighting the puns from now on. Today's was tricky though, because I feel like two of the words could be used as puns here.

I underlined 'pin' as I feel it's the punniest choice here, but safety could work too since most weapons have them. I'm no grenade expert, so I'm not sure if grenades have a safety on them or not. I would guess that's the pin's job.

For the Birds

The boy got a joke book as an Easter gift from his Nana. I've been reassigned from fun facts back to jokes. I flipped through the first few pages today, and I'm surprised at how many Wizard of Oz jokes there were. Today's joke isn't quite Ozish, but it's close enough that I'd count it.

Some of the kids were excited to see the return of jokes. A few of them were even able to correctly guess the answer for this one. I'm training them well in the art of the pun!
