Heavy

The boy remains mildly obsessed with weather phenomenon. He's especially curious about natural disasters. Lately, though, his questions have revolved around clouds.

He wants to know what makes them gray. He wants to know why they're black at nighttime. He wants to know how rain comes out of them. I'm becoming an expert on clouds.

I thought this fun fact would be right up his alley.

In case you can't read it (words are a bit blurry this morning) it says, a cloud can weigh more than a million pounds. And yet they can still stay aloft. Wild. Happy Tuesday!

Shake things up

Last week, the boy told me he would like to do things a little differently. He likes the jokes, but he doesn't want it to be a joke in his lunch every day. He wants it to be a surprise. He asked if today, instead of a joke, I would give him a fun fact. I liked the idea, so we're rolling with it.

So, from here on out, there are no guarantees that the doodle will be a joke! It might be a fun fact. I've already learned something new. I can't wait to see what other fun facts I can find. Happy Monday!

Huffin' and puffin'

Fun fact you probably didn't know about this mama: birds creep me out. One pooped in my hair one time, and now none of them can be trusted. There are very few exceptions to this rule. One of them is the adorable guy in today's doodle.

Also, today is our Friday. The boy is out of school (again) tomorrow. It's the end of their marking period, so the teachers have a workday. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Fenced in

I feel like today's doodle is a bit boring, especially compared to yesterday's. There's only so much you can do to make a drawing of a fence interesting though. I could have added some ivy or a bird on one of the posts I guess. Maybe I'm just feeling unimaginative this morning. Honestly, I'm just happy it's recognizably a fence.

Happy Wednesday, folks!

Break it up

Yesterday, another boy brought in a joke at lunch. He had written it on a napkin himself. It was amazing. It has me considering getting the boy to write his own jokes. I'm interested to see if that classmate brings in another joke today.

I think today's doodle is going to be a pleaser both for the joke and the doodle.

Egg-cellent!

So, in hindsight, I probably should have saved this joke for another month or two. I'll just have to dig up some different Easter jokes.

On a side note, I discovered today just how much like eggs real eggplants look when they first start to grow. The name makes so much more sense now.

I hope everyone's week is off to a great start!

Short week!

So, there's this thing going on in DC tomorrow. There's going to be a parade, and some concerts, and I heard Donald Trump is going to be there. Since we live so close to DC, public schools are closed for the big event. That makes this a crazy short week.

Here's a doodle to hold you over until Monday.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

That measurement looks fishy

I've been a little under the weather since we got back from New York, and I've found it very hard to get motivated in the mornings. I'm wondering if the boy is feeling it too. He slept until after eight this morning, which is unheard of. Normally, he's asking me if he can play video games while it's still dark outside. No matter how many times I tell him there's no screen time before school, he never gives up hope.

Given my unenthusiastic start of the day, I'm satisfied with today's doodle. The drawing came out better than I expected.

Fingers crossed that my chest doesn't feel like there's an elephant sitting on it when I wake up tomorrow morning. Oh, and if my body could avoid feeling like it got hit by a truck, that would be nice too. Hope you're all having a better week than this tired mama!

It's been a while

Whew! What a long, wonderful weekend that was. We're working on getting back into the swing of things here. Long weekends always throw us off, but we also threw a trip to New York City in there, so we're all out of sorts. New York, as always, was amazing. The boy believes it was entirely too much walking.

None of us were really ready to head back to school today. I have to confess that the boy's lunch was a glorified snack bar. I did throw a hard-boiled egg in there, so protein and all that.

At lunch today, the boy's classmates couldn't wait for him to pull the joke out of his lunchbox. One even tried to grab it before the boy had a chance to read it. I'm happy that they like them so much.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Tut, tut

I picked this doodle last night because it was supposed to be rainy. Woke up to sunny skies, but am sticking with the joke anyway.

We are leaving this evening to take the boy to NYC for the first time. We're taking the train. He's never ridden one. This weekend is sure to be filled with firsts for him. However, that means this is the last doodle until next TUESDAY since we're off of school on Monday.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Banana Fana fo Furple

Normally, I doodle in black and white, but I felt like today's doodle warranted some color!

The boy bought school lunch today, so I had to tuck the doodle in with his snack. He also managed to get syrup in his hair while throwing his lunch tray away, but that's another story altogether. I'm hoping he remembers the doodle is packed with his snack. If not, he'll get to read it when he gets home.

Pearly whites

Fun fact I just learned: my brain cannot come up with clever wordplay about teeth. Maybe these arctic temperatures have my all sluggish. Regardless of my not so clever blog post title, I still think today's doodle will be a hit.

Of course, the boy and his friends most likely won't get the polaroid reference, it is still recognizably a pic of a tooth.

Happy second week of 2017!

Bells and balls

Oy ve. I forgot to post yesterday's doodle. First missed post of the new year. Hopefully, it won't become a habit. The good news is that you get two new doodles to carry you into the weekend.

Have I shared with you that there are now first graders who ask me for the daily joke? My boy is in kindergarten and doesn't even have lunch with first grade. There's a girl in first grade who was in the boy's school last year, and she remembered the doodles from then. Now, she and her friends ask me for the joke every day. I love it!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

We all need somebody to lava

I thought about saving today's joke for the week of Valentine's Day, but then decided to go ahead and send it in.

Also, you may recognize the two lovers from a Pixar short that is wildly amazing. If you haven't ever seen it, Google it after reading this post. You won't regret it.

Happy Wednesday!!

Breaks are Never Long Enough

It's true. Vacations never seem to last long enough. Winter Break is already over. We jumped right back into the swing of things with a long day for the boy. Tuesdays are Chess Club days, so he stays an extra hour after school.

To help get him ready for chess and bring a little lightness to a heavy, rainy day, I felt like this joke was perfect.

I hope everyone's 2017 is off to a great start!
